After years selling motorcycle lighting, BikeVis has shut its doors. If you're an adventure or trail rider, my new project might be right up your street: Find Green Lanes — an interactive map of every green lane in Britain, with a community of riders built on top.
Every byway, restricted byway and bridleway in Britain on one map — colour-coded by type, with names, star ratings and difficulty grades. Filter to what you can legally ride.
Riders leave reviews, difficulty grades and geotagged photos, so you know what a lane's actually like before you commit to it.
Draw your own routes, save favourites, drop pins on gates, fords and parking, and download GPX to take to any device.
Installs to your phone like an app, works with gloves on, shows elevation profiles and climb/descent, and follows your live location so you always know you're on track.
Profiles, messaging, group chat rooms, a contributor leaderboard and a "members near me" feature to hook up with riders in your county.
Pick a byway, hit Navigate, and Google Maps takes you right to it — no more stitching together forum posts and PDFs.
I'm Dan Bailey. BikeVis sold motorcycle lighting for a long time, and I'm grateful to everyone who bought from us and spread the word. In the end, rising costs and a flood of cheap competition from the Far East made it impossible to keep going — so that chapter's now closed.
After 12 years away from biking I bought a Himalayan 450 and went looking for byways to ride — and couldn't find them. The info was scattered across old forum posts and PDFs. So I built the thing I wanted, and it grew into Find Green Lanes: a map, a navigator and a community for trail and adventure riders.
If that sounds like you, come and have a look. It's early days, but it's coming together nicely — and new riders join every week.
Thanks for the years of support — see you on the trails.
