Won't light from sidelight feed

Hi. I took a live and earth feed from my auxiliary light (2004 TDM900). This works when an ordinary 12v bulb and bulbholder are attached and the ignition is switched on. The DRL's won't light, though if I put the wires from them direct to the battery they do. I have the positive wire going to the positive feed. Even if I only connect the positive from the DRL to the live switched heed and earth the black wire, they won't light. I am a wee bit confused!

That's very strange, sounds like reverse polarity... try the other way around (you won't damage anything by trying)

What is even stranger is that I thought I had tried every way at the weekend, but I just went into the garage, tried the wires the other way round (black/white to negative, black to positive) and they work, which is the main thing. Thanks
