Title: Resolved: Switch help needed.
Post by: acema on November 05, 2010, 09:41:09 AM
Hi mates,
(https://www.gixxer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=149129&stc=1&d=1288949787)
  im riding a gsxr 600
I have added 2 LED/ pole lights to the front of my bike to improve visibility in the night.

Had added a switch to them. But now the problem is that when the bike is   off and if i were to switch on the pole light switch. The pole light   will turn on even when the bike ignition is off.

I park in the public alot due to work, would be worse if some itchy   hands decide to meddle with the switch and let it on for hours.

Any experts can give some advice on how to route the wiring so that only   when the ignition is turned on and the pole light switch is on then the   lights will lit up?

I connect both LED positive wire into 1 and route to an end of a switch.   Then both LED negative to GROUND. Route another wire from my bike main   battery positive side to another end of the switch.
A simple diagram of what i did has been uploaded.

  Thanks.

Hi

If you have quite low current lights fitted (like our Bullets), instead of powering your switch from the Battery, splice it into the 12v on your Sidelights loom.

Sidelights are always running when ignition on (on most bikes), so will mean no-one could tamper when you away from bike, and the lights can only be switched on when your ignition on. The 12v on your sidelights will be really easy to get to as well... make the splice into the wire right up near the sidelight bulb holder.

Hope the above helps.... there are limits to this method as the current from your extra lights flows direct through ignition switch. This means you can't use anything too high a load. If they are Bullet lights though your fine. (in fact I have 2 * 0.5 Amp Cree lights on mine like this)

If the load is too high it could damage your ignition switch, so you would need to fit a relay to power your switch... do you know the power drawn from your additional lights ? (if they are from BikeVis I could tell you straight away if ok or not)

Hi

We don't know much about oil at BikeVis sorry... you'd maybe be best asking on a Harley forum ?
