Hi Dan
On 27th Nov I bought from you (via eBay) the DRL kit. I've now managed to fit the lights and have had 2 trips to work since fitting.
Initially I wired the controller box to the battery only, i.e without brown, blue or white wires. The lights worked when the engine is started but switched off a short time later. As I know nothing about DRLs I thought maybe they needed more revs to work so didn't worry. However on my way home (in the dark) I was able to observe that the lights would at t the start of the journey switch on and off periodically. But as the journey continued (my commute is about 40 minutes) they were off all the time.
On day 2 implemented the 'control wire' method (blue and brown connected to the lighting circuit). With this they lit when the ignition was switched on, however there was a similar on/off behaviour. When I got home the lights had again been off for the latter part of the journey, but on turning off the ignition they came on! After a few minutes they were still on, so I had to resort to removing the fuse (not easy.... very tight fit... used pliers).
I'm guessing now that the blue and brown wires are designed to enable each light to flash in sympathy with the OEM turn signals and work with the controller rather than override it's behaviour as I had first thought.
Anyway, at the moment, I don't have a working system.
Please advise!

Hi Paul
Sorry you are having trouble. The battery only connection method should be all that's needed as it senses the running voltage from the alternator.
I'm pretty sure it's just a issue with the controller box, I'll get a new one straight out to you.... there is really nothing to go wrong there so it must be a manufacturing fault on the pcb.
Could you email your full address to sales@bikevis.com
Many thanks
Thanks Dan, have emailed you my address.
Cheers
Paul
Thanks Paul... pretty sure this will fix the problem.
Keep me posted

Hi Dan
This has indeed solved the problem. Many thanks for the replacement controller which I fitted yesterday and for the excellent service. I've only so far tested the lights in the garage i.e at idle speed and in dim mode in the dark on my commute this morning. Perhaps because of my original problem last week I decided that a switch in the 12V supply would be a good thing, so I bought an additional lighting switch like this one...
... I eventually wired the switch 12V input from the lighting circuit. The switch "low" output feeds the white wire of the controller to activate the dim mode. There is another switch output which is high except when in the off position so this I used to supply the controller box with its 12V supply.
Can I ask why it is that you say to connect direct to the battery? Is it just for convenience, or is it detrimental to connect to the lighting circuit? I'm hoping the former.
The other thing I have done is to wire in the blue and brown leads into the indicators; hence they now flash when signalling. Can you tell me if this is legal as far as you know?
Cheers
Paul
Hi Paul
Glad all is sorted and nice job with the switch.
The only reason for connecting direct to battery and leaving the unit to auto detect is that was the way the circuits were designed (we do not make this unit), and from experience powering the control box in different ways can end up with the lights not turning off, though it won't damage anything
There are many ways to wire them but we try to keep it as simple as possible with just a two wire installation.
Having the control wires flash the lights i suspect is not legal as the white light would be the wrong colour, which needs to be amber. If you feel it increases your visibility though and are willing to risk it with the boys in blue then it certainly won't damage anything.
Kind regards
Hi Dan
That all makes sense both the simplicity and the legality. My wiring was an experiment but as it all seems to work at the moment I'll give up while I'm ahead :)
I must say I was a little embarrassed when indicating with the DRLs flashing away. I've disconnected them now from the indicators.
Thanks again for all your help; I'm very pleased with the lights especially now I've finished fiddling with them!

Paul
You're welcome Paul, any problems in the future just yell... have a great xmas

Some car manufacturers do wire their DRL's to act differently when indicating, those in the same cluster not seperated by enough distance in the main.
I know Audi do this for sure....
