just a quick one really ,i have a set of lights running standard h3 bulbs they are 55w at 12v each .however i have been asked to build a set for a friend who wants to be able to dim the lights to give a lower amount of light for genaral running and then to turn up the light if needed ..my question is if i replace the standard h3's with led h3's can i use a dimmer unit to control them just as i would if using an led strip light ??
many thanks
john
Hi
Sorry about the delay in reply. The problem is generally LED replacements for larger bulbs like H3 are not very bright at all, and even at full brightness the performance would be many times less than the halogens. Dimming them would also have to be matched carefully with a matched dimming unit (that could handle the load)
Dimming the halogens, though possible would need some custom electronics... and as far as I'm aware nothing exists for bikes that does this.

thanks for reply mate ..thats what i thought as well ..but i sorted the issue now .basically i modded the standard spots by adding a ring of leds into the lenses on a dimming circuit so he has 2 separate sets of lights in 1 unit ..
Hi
Glad you got it sorted, and sounds like a decent mod to get the best of both worlds. Nice work!
